Jiu-Jitsu vs Karate

Which should you train?

Both build discipline. They just train different problems. Here is the honest difference — and how to pick the one that fits what you actually want out of training.

The Short Answer

Train Jiu-Jitsu if…

✓ You want self-defense that works when someone closes the distance
✓ You like problem-solving and live rolling against real resistance
✓ You want conditioning that comes from full-effort rounds
✓ You would rather earn measurable progress than memorise forms

Train Karate if…

✓ You want striking fundamentals and formal structure
✓ You enjoy kata and a traditional belt curriculum
✓ You prefer a lower-contact start
✓ You want a discipline-first room for a very young child

What We Teach Here

At Killer B HQ we teach No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu as one of the Four Arts, alongside boxing, kickboxing and wrestling. You learn each art properly on its own, then how they connect.

We do not teach karate — and we will say so plainly. If a traditional striking curriculum is what you are after, that is worth knowing before you sign anywhere. If you want grappling coached the honest way, this is the right room.

No Belts. Only Standards.
Objective · Measurable · Earned

Common Questions

Which is better for self-defense?

Both help. Karate covers striking range; Jiu-Jitsu covers what happens once the distance closes or you end up on the ground — which is where most real altercations go.

Which is better for my child?

Either builds discipline. Grappling gives a child safe, full-contact problem-solving without strikes to the head — a big reason parents choose it.

Do I need to be fit to start?

No. You get in shape by training. We meet you where you are on day one.

Can I try before joining?

Yes. Book a trial, take a class, meet the coaches. No pressure, no ego.

Still Not Sure Which Fits?

Book a trial. We will watch you move and tell you honestly what suits your goals.
