Frequently Asked Questions

Combat sports, human performance, and long-term athlete development — every path built on one standard. Choose where you begin.

Getting started

Do I need any experience to start?

No. Most people who walk in have never trained. Every class has beginners in it, and the coaches scale what you do on your first night to what you can actually handle.

Do I need to be in shape first?

No. You get in shape by training, not before it. Waiting until you are fit enough to start is the most common reason people never start.

Can I try a class before joining?

Yes. Book a free trial, take a class, meet the coaches, and decide afterwards. No contract is signed on day one.

How do I book my first class?

Fill in the form on the free trial page or call 732-313-3703. A coach will call you back to pick a time that suits you.

What actually happens on my first visit?

You arrive a few minutes early, check in at the front desk, and a coach walks you through what the class will involve before it starts. You are not thrown in.

What should I bring to my first class?

Something you can move in, a water bottle, and yourself. We have gloves and equipment you can borrow while you work out whether this is for you.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, and it makes the first month easier. Book them a trial too so they train rather than watch.

How long before I feel like I know what I am doing?

You will feel useful within a few weeks and out of your depth for a lot longer than that. Everyone in the room went through the same thing.

I am nervous about walking in. What should I know?

Nobody is watching you. Everyone in the room was new once and most of them remember it clearly. No pressure and no ego is not a slogan here, it is the rule.

Classes and schedule

What times do you run classes?

Classes run from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, with Sunday morning conditioning and 24-hour open gym for members. Ask us for this week's exact times — they move with the season and we would rather tell you the truth than publish a stale grid.

How long is a class?

Most classes run about an hour. Open mat and sparring sessions run longer and you can leave when you are done.

Do I need to book ahead?

For your trial, yes, so a coach knows to expect you. Once you are a member you can turn up to any class you are eligible for.

What do you actually teach?

The Four Arts: boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu. You learn each one properly and then learn how they connect. BLAB is our strength and conditioning laboratory alongside them.

Can I train more than one art?

Yes, and most people do. Learning how the arts connect is the whole point of how this place is built.

Can I train more than once a day?

Yes. Plenty of members do a morning conditioning session and an evening class. Talk to a coach about recovery before you make it a habit.

Do I have to spar?

Not until you want to, and not until a coach thinks you are ready. Sparring is a deliberate part of training here, not a hazing ritual.

Do you have open mat?

Yes. Open mat and sparring run in the evening and at the weekend, and members have 24-hour access to the gym floor.

What if I miss a few weeks?

You come back. Everybody has a stretch where life gets in the way, and nobody here will make a thing of it.

Are you open on holidays?

The schedule changes around major holidays. Ask us or check the board in the gym for that week.

Kids and teens

What ages do you teach?

We run youth programs and adult programs. Ask us where your child fits — it depends more on the individual kid than on a number, and we will tell you honestly if they are not ready yet.

Is it safe for my child?

Youth classes are taught without strikes to the head. Grappling gives a child safe, full-contact problem-solving, and every session is coach-led with structure.

What will my child actually get out of it?

Focus, composure and the experience of being bad at something in front of other people and getting better anyway. The technique is almost a side effect.

Do you run after-school classes?

Youth classes run in the after-school window. Ask us for the current times.

Can I watch my child's class?

Yes. Parents wait in the same room they train in themselves, and you are welcome to watch every session.

My child is shy. Will they cope?

Usually better than the parent expects. Coaches pair a nervous child with someone patient and build from there rather than throwing them into the middle.

Can siblings train together?

Often, depending on ages and where each of them is. A coach will tell you honestly whether it helps or holds one of them back.

Will my child learn to fight other kids?

They will learn to control a situation and stay calm in it, which is close to the opposite. Kids who train properly are the least likely to need it.

Membership and pricing

How much does it cost?

Ask us and we will send exact pricing for the programs you are interested in, along with anything running as an intro offer. We would rather quote you properly than publish a number that does not match what you need.

Am I locked into a contract?

Talk to us about the options before you commit to anything. Nobody signs on their first visit.

Do you have belts?

No belts, only standards. Progress here is objective, measurable and earned against a resisting partner rather than awarded on a curriculum.

Can I freeze my membership?

Talk to us. Injuries, deployments and long trips happen, and we would rather hold your spot than lose you.

Do you do family rates?

Ask us. If more than one person in a household trains, tell us when you enquire.

Do you sell day passes or drop-ins?

Ask us — if you are visiting the area or in town for a short stretch, we will sort something out.

Gear and equipment

What gear do I need to buy?

Nothing, to start. Borrow ours for your first few sessions and buy your own once you know you are staying.

When do I need my own gloves?

Once you are training regularly. A coach will tell you what size and weight for what you are doing rather than letting you guess online.

What do I wear for grappling?

A rash guard and shorts without pockets or zips. We train No-Gi, so you do not need a gi.

Do you sell equipment?

Ask at the front desk. If we do not have what you need we will tell you exactly what to buy.

Do you have changing rooms and showers?

Yes. Come as you are and change here if that is easier after work.

Safety and injuries

What happens if I get injured?

Tell a coach immediately, not at the end of the session. Most training injuries get worse because somebody decided to finish the round.

Can I train with an old injury?

Usually, with modifications. Tell the coach before class rather than during it, and be specific about what the injury does not like.

How do you keep the mats clean?

They are cleaned on a schedule, every day. Wash your kit after every session — skin infections are the one avoidable problem people get careless about.

Is sparring dangerous?

It is controlled, scaled and supervised. Nobody is put in with someone who cannot control themselves, and hard rounds are a deliberate part of a fight camp, not a Tuesday night.

Specialty programs

What is BLAB?

BLAB is our strength and conditioning laboratory — programming built to support combat sports training and to stand on its own for people who are here purely to get stronger.

What is Rock Steady Boxing?

Non-contact boxing for people training with Parkinson's, built around balance, power and voice. It is coach-led and runs as its own program, not as a modified regular class.

Do you train competitors?

Yes. Athlete development runs from amateur through professional, and our coaches have cornered fighters at the top level.

Do I have to compete?

No. Most members never compete and nobody is pushed toward it. If you want to, tell a coach and they will tell you honestly what it takes.

Visiting

Where are you?

22 Meridian Rd, Unit 7, Eatontown, NJ 07724. Parking is out front.

Is there parking?

Yes, directly outside the unit. You will not be circling the block before class.

How do I get in touch?

Call 732-313-3703 or email info@killerbhq.com. You will get a person, not a queue.

Can I just come and watch?

Yes. Come in, watch a class, talk to whoever is coaching. No pressure and no ego.
